We know from asking guests that one of the key factors in choosing to holiday at Robin Hill Farm Cottages is our swimming pool – not least because it is indoors and always heated to 30°C. This makes the air temperature in the pool room warm too so water babies of all ages can comfortably spend time in the water without getting cold.
We love to see our young guests building water confidence, practising swimming strokes and developing skills such as diving. To help encourage less confident youngsters to enjoying being in the water there is a large stepped corner and small selection of floats and water toys. For the more water confident there is a jet stream for distance swimming, balls for water polo and usually a ride-on inflatable - you’re welcome to bring your own water games along too.
At 8m long with a constant 1.2m depth, children find this a less intimidating space to practice swimming in than large public baths and many go home having improved tremendously. If you’d like to go one step further and book swimming lessons, just let us know and we will put you in contact with Gemma, who is a local ASA qualified private hire instructor, to make your own arrangements. Gemma teaches babies upwards and comes highly recommended by our guests.
On a practical note, the pool room is kept locked and each cottage has their own key. In the pool room are two changing rooms, WC, shower and dry seats for non-swimmers.
We get great feedback about our pool and after a week of swimming at least once a day there can even be tears on departure day from youngsters who have loved having their ‘own’ swimming pool. Access to the pool room is freely available between 8am and 9pm and even with 6 cottages full, we often have guests say that they had the pool to themselves. Don’t take our word for it: Vikki wrote on Trip Advisor ‘the swimming pool is very warm and great for children’; Clare told Netmums ‘We had mixed weather, but this was not a problem in the slightest as they have a lovely warm indoor pool, hot tub and games room, suitable for babies all the way up to big kids!’
In the corner of the pool room, and for those over 10, is a seven seater Hot Tub. It is delightfully toasty at 36 degrees C with an array of jets that can soothe away aches and tension leaving you relaxed and re-energised.
After a session in the water, or indeed, for those who don’t want to get wet, our guest conservatory bridges the temperature zones between pool room and outside and is a handy point to fully dry off. There is the option to refresh with hot or cold drinks and snacks from our honesty bar too. In winter, switch on the heaters, in summer open up the windows, just make yourselves comfortable, grab a magazine, plug in your music, relax and enjoy. With plenty of seating and tables, this is a really sociable space too.
In summer, the decking around the conservatory is a perfect place to catch the sun and take in the stunning views from the top of our site looking out over Jennetts Valley and across to Exmoor.
