Year Two in our Kitchen Garden: Planting Rhubarb & Asparagus and Inspiration from a National Trust Garden

When we moved to Robin Hill Farm in North Devon one of our aims was to create a kitchen garden and experiment ‘growing our own’. Last year we built, filled and sowed 5 raised beds and our produce wildly exceeded expectations – now we want more! So this year, we’ve dug new beds and started the longer term projects of planting rhubarb and asparagus. (To read more, click on the title above)

Lambs, Llamas and Lemon Cakes

What a fabulous Easter we’ve had in North Devon. Our cottages have been full so I’ve been busy making Lemon Cakes to welcome our guests; it’s been bright and blustery – perfect for beachcombing and rock pooling; the birds are nesting; sheep are lambing AND we’ve discovered there are Llamas living very near us! Letterboxing on Dartmoor

We are keen walkers and usually take to the trail armed with a route guide as well as a trusty Ordnance Survey Map. So it was a novel experience to be taken yomping on Dartmoor across the boggy moor over tussocks of ‘elephant grass’ following a compass bearing in search of a famed Dartmoor Letterbox…..(to read more click on the title above).

Exmoor Goats Star in BBC Countryfile

Last week we took advantage of a bright sunny day to head for Exmoor. First stop – Valley of Rocks, Lynton. This is an unusual and picturesque dry valley grazed by a herd of wild goats….seems we trailblazed for BBC Countryfile who were there a few days later filming Adam Henson helping with the annual round up and treatment of the herd………(click on the title above to read more)

If, like me, you consider cycling an occasional activity best done on a sunny day – the gentle gradient of the Tarka Trail is perfect. I'll Take The High Road!

We’ve taken advantage of visiting friends to get our boots on during half term and continue our exploration of Exmoor. Our walk started down at Combe Martin Harbour and took us up, up and more up to Knap Down ridge where we found a smoking horse box! (Click on the title above to read and see more….)
